Proposition 8 and the Defense of Marriage Act. Listeners can hear the justices
and lawyers speaking about the possibility of allowing gays to marry and have
the benefits of heterosexual married couples in the US.
One
user comments ‘it’s not natural’ just before Justice Sonia Sotomayor replies to
a statement suggesting that those who disapprove of the idea of homosexual
married couples do so because gay couples cannot physically produce children.
This comes from the oral arguments on Prop 8.
“ If
you’re over the age of 55, you don’t help us serve the government’s interests
in regulating the government’s view of procreation in marriage, so why is that
different (than same sex marriage)?” Sotomayor said when discussing whether or
not a procreation requirement for marriage would be constitutional or
unconstitutional.
