This
map from the website, Freedom to Marry shows the policies concerning same sex
marriage and relationships in each state of the United States of America.
Currently,
states that have policies that allow members of the LGBT community to marry are
Connecticut, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York,
Vermont, Washington, Washington D.C. and Rhode Island.
The
state of New Mexico respects out of state marriages for same sex couples.
Civil
unions are legal for homosexual couples in Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois and New
Jersey.
California,
Nevada, and Oregon all recognize domestic partnerships for same sex couples.
The
remaining states are against gay marriage and gay relationships.
Freedom
to Marry is an advocate on the pro-same sex marriage side. The site is
important for citizen journalists because it provides context to current
policies and sometimes developments in policies regarding marriage. Whether a
blogger cares to report for or against gay marriage, this resource is still
useful for anyone who wants to know the state laws on same sex relationships in
his or her jurisdiction. This information also provides context for the pieces
of social media that make up the digital movements for gay marriage and for
marriage defined as one man and one woman.
What
do you think of the laws regarding same sex relationships in your state?
