Keek

Keek is an up and coming social media website and phone application. Although it is not very known about in the United States, it is the number one social media site in the Middle East, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. Now it is starting to gain popularity in the United States of America.
“Keek is number one for a reason,” Isaac Raichyk, the founder and chief executive officer of Keek said. “ Users like that our app is extremely fast, fun and easy to use. We are obsessed with speed and our goal is to keep Keek fast, fun and free as we continue to grow.”
The free service tool allows people to record a video 36 seconds long for their webcam, Iphone, Android, or Blackberry. Key feautures include the ability to subscribe to people of interest, the ability to comment on videos with text and emoticons, and the ability to respond to videos with the ‘keekback’ gadget.

Eventually globalization or the process of increasing interconnectedness among nations, cultures, and people will benefit the goal of Keek more. Right now in the US, few Keek posts have been made on same sex marriage. The application is still in its early stages, so it has not been exposed to much journalistic use. Learning about Keek has helped to show a correlation between how social media movements like the Human Rights Campaign’s red and pink equality signs impact the United States culture significantly through websites like Twitter and Facebook that both have a sizeable amount of site users. The social media impact of the gay marriage discussion proves to not fare well among websites with less viewership.
This is important because it gives politically aware citizens an idea of how to track or maybe even plan a social media movement. Keek could still be the avenue for a social media movement one day, but not for events that involve American politics at the moment.
